Our philosophy recognises that every child is an individual who learns and develops at their own pace. We provide a supportive learning environment where children are encouraged to build confidence, independence and a love of learning. Our smaller classes allow teachers to know their students well and respond to their individual strengths, interests and learning needs.
We follow the Western Australian Curriculum K–12, as outlined by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA). The curriculum provides the foundation for teaching and learning while allowing us to place each child at the centre of their education. More information about the Western Australian Curriculum is available through the SCSA Parent Website.
We recognise and respect the different learning styles, abilities and needs of our students. Learning is supported through a combination of explicit teaching, cooperative learning, practical experiences and active, hands-on activities across the curriculum. Our aim is to develop confident, capable and curious learners who have the skills to continue learning throughout their lives.
Following the Western Australian Curriculum also provides continuity for our students and supports a smooth transition from Eton Farm Primary School into secondary education.
Music, Art, Noongar Language and Nature Play are important parts of our educational program and contribute to the rich learning experiences we provide.
Music Education is an important part of our school program and is strongly influenced by Orff Schulwerk, an approach developed from the work of composer Carl Orff. Children learn through a creative combination of movement, speech, singing, rhythm, playing instruments and improvisation. The Orff approach has strong connections with oral language development, particularly in the early years, while also encouraging creativity, confidence and self-expression.
Creativity is further encouraged through our Art program, where children have opportunities to explore ideas, materials and different ways of expressing themselves.
Our unique farm environment provides wonderful opportunities for Nature Play and outdoor learning. Children experience both structured and unstructured play in the natural environment and have opportunities to interact with and care for small animals. They also regularly visit the farm animals and explore the many different areas of the property. The farm is not simply the setting for our school; it is an important part of the children’s learning experience.
All students are introduced to Noongar language and culture, with Noongar language learning forming part of the curriculum from Year 3.
We acknowledge and respect the Gnaala Karla Booja people of the Noongar Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school stands and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
